Dera Lamsa - GATEWAY TO BALTISTAN
Dera Lamsa starts forty years back, when one of its founders ‘discovered’ Baltistan trekking through its mountains and valleys and falling in love with its landscape and people. The relationship evolved into his involvement in setting up the Deosai National Park and the community-based tourism with support from the government and local communities. Many years later he came to settle down in the Lamsa village overlooking the Shigar River, which is the first view that the travellers and climbers see on their way to the Baltoro and Panmah glaciers with their world-famous treks and peaks such as the K2. Dera Lamsa, named after the village, reflects his longstanding commitment to the environment and the culture and traditions of the people in Baltistan.
